"It is disturbing, but at the same time it's a fun thing and I don't think there's anything wrong with it at all," says Rev. Allan Ferguson, pastor of the First Church of Christ in Lynn, whose church marquee featured a telling message this week: "Easter - More than something to dye for."
"I think we do tend to lose sight of the real meaning, but for the kids I think it's great," adds Ferguson."Deep in their minds, I think people know the real reason for these holidays."
For his part, Ferguson says his church even embraces some of the commercial ideas of Easter, as evidenced by the Easter eggs hunt it has for children each year. While he may not resort to having the Easter Bunny show up at Sunday mass to entertain children, he says getting young people to understand the lessons of Easter through modern methods isn't such a bad idea.
Danvers' Lynch agrees, pointing out that his store sells "resurrection eggs," which are much like regular Easter eggs save for the fact that each carries a religious message rather than candy or money.

"We've had the Easter Bunny ever since I was a kid, but I was still at church every Sunday," says Ferguson.
