1998 - Alice Ferguson
Alice Ferguson, third grade teacher at School One, graduated from Michigan State University and began teaching at the Washington School in Rutherford for two years before starting her family.She and her husband live locally and her two children are graduates of the Scotch Plains-Fanwood Public Schools.She returned to teaching in 1982 as a half-time compensatory education teacher at Evergreen School and in 1985 she began teaching the gifted and talented program there.Mrs. Ferguson has taught at School One since 1986.
Mrs. Ferguson was nominated for her ability to deal with every child "where they're at," to focus on their strengths rather than their weaknesses, and to set high expectations for all her students.Each of Mrs. Ferguson's students leaves her class knowing that this special teacher has believed in them, so they must be all right - a message that absolutely lasts a lifetime!
