Commissioner Dave Fergus
Central Kitsap Fire & Rescue
Planning Committee
...
·Dave Fergus commented the two commissioners from Central Kitsap Fire & Rescue were attending the NW Leadership Seminar in Portland, OR.
...
·Dave Fergus commented that when we embarked upon this process, a long time was spent developing a Communications Plan, and for a very good reason.
We wanted to make sure all our communication, internally and externally, was "all on the same page" so everyone understood everything the same way, regardless of which department they're in, whether they're an elected official or staff member or firefighter.
Dave thinks we fell down somewhere in some of our internal communications, particularly with CKFR support staff.
He feels there is overall blame.
There have been some hard feelings, some miscommunications, some lack of communication here and there.
He thinks it's disappointing in some ways, and it's something we need to work on.
Some things have been communicated that aren't necessarily true, and are not in the spirit of what this planning process is about.
He's a little bit disappointed.
If anyone would like to talk further about this outside of the meeting, he would be happy to do so.
...
·Dave Fergus commented it is good to have an effective date on paperwork.
...
ØDave Fergus indicated he is all about efficiencies, but also about the initial premise made that everyone has a job.
He asked if there was a box in the organization chart for every current individual in all three agencies.
...
·Dave Fergus would like to see a dollar difference comparison of the labor cost under the current contract, and under a new contract - based on the same number of employees for same year.
He is interested in specifically seeing the differences for CKFR under their current contract and under the new contract, as CKFR's contract is different.
He suspected South Kitsap and Bremerton would ask the same question.
·Dave commented there will be a cost change when we become a larger organization.
He asked how our comparables compare from now to later when we become a bigger organization.
He thinks this is an important part of the equation.
