   Karoleen Feng, East Bay Asian Local Development Corp.'s project manager, said they will meet with the community next week to talk about revisions to the design. She said it hasn't been easy devising a configuration that will attract national retailers and at the same time stay true to the development corporation's mission to serve the community by filling the spaces with cafes and shops that residents want and need.
   
   The existing shopping center is "holding its own," but could do much better, Feng said. The new retail space is being privately financed for $2 million and must be self-sufficient, she said.
   
   "Our neighborhood is not necessarily a retail destination," she said.
