Felton, the former Verna McLaurin, lives in Seattle, but was born in Mississippi. She was 2 years old when she moved with her family to the Seattle area. During her junior year in high school, she moved back to Jackson to be near relatives.

She entered Provine High School, where she graduated after excelling in track. She attended Jackson State University in the early '90s, playing for the school's volleyball team. She hasn't lived in Mississippi since leaving JSU.

Integrity question prompts "Apprentice" candidate Verna Felton to pack bags for good
    ...
Verna Felton, the former Jackson State University student who was a candidate on The Apprentice, walked off NBC's popular reality series during Thursday's episode.

Although the show is taped, the fate of the candidates remains a secret to viewers until events unfold on each broadcast. Felton told her team she wasn't feeling well and volunteered to leave.

In a phone interview Friday from New York, Felton sounded cheerful and optimistic. "I know what you're thinking: 'Is this really Verna Felton, the weak, wimpy person I saw on The Apprentice?' But that's not who I am," she said.

In this season's second episode, which aired last week, Felton also walked off the show, not long after complaining she was mentally and physically exhausted; but, apparently, she returned.

On Thursday's episode, she was shown packing her bags and leaving for good, ending her chances of winning a lifetime job and a six-figure salary with Donald Trump's organization.

Felton, a Microsoft employee with an MBA in business communications, said that, for "dramatic purposes" the producers stretched her departure over two shows. "The viewer doesn't see everything that happens," she said.

"Would I have wanted the job with Donald Trump?" Felton asked Friday.

Verna has a great job in Seattle and hopefully she will continue on the road to success."

Funmi Spencer of Jackson had been tracking Felton's progress. "It's kind of unfortunate to see our Mississippi connection leave," she said Friday.
