   Lauren Felton started her line a year and a half ago with her debut collection for Spring 2004. Based in New York, Felton, 26, is a Florida native and graduate from Parsons School of Design. She has received great acclaim for her work, including a coveted spot in the Spring 2004 GenArt Fresh Faces show.
   
   Lauren¹s trademark is a sculptural approach to construction ‹ her clothes can be configured and worn several different ways ‹ and for this collection she has explored that concept even further, assembling the various panels of the same style differently to create new garments.
   
   Several of the pieces are skeletal, reduced to their elemental structure, with cutouts that reveal how they interact with the human form and contour the body. Parts of garments interlock in unconventional and unexpected ways ‹ panel pieces grow from the shoulders to intertwine at the spine, pants almost disappear to expose the knee, only to grow full again to wrap around the ankle and shirt runs only from shoulder to shoulder. For this collection she has mixed the matte jerseys that have always been her staple with bright silks, and the result is a collection that has a soft feminine beauty, and at the same time the structure and strength of an insect¹s exoskeleton. It¹s a beautiful and sometimes startling collection, bold and vivacious, cerebral yet utterly wearable.
