Matt Feller, 24, is the other new officer at the PPD.
A 1996 graduate of Peru High School, Matt went on to Ball State University, where he obtained a Bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice and Criminology in May 2000.
Matt also spent time as an intern at the Miami County Sheriff's Department, where he spent a semester patrolling the streets with deputies.
He enjoyed the internship so much that he took a job as a jail deputy after graduating college.
"It's been a goal of mine to get out on the road," Matt said."I look forward to attending the police academy in October and am working with a field training officer now."
Van Baalen said Feller is the epitome of the perfect police candidate.

"If there are high school students out there who are considering a career in law enforcement, then Matt would be the police officer to model themselves after. He has a four-year degree and brought all the tools to the table for us to mold him into a great police officer."
