My DAN (Defeat Autism Now) practitioner, Allan Goldblatt, PA-C, referred us to Dr. Neil Feldstein, a highly skilled Pediatric Neurologist at New York's Columbia Presbyterian.
...
In the fall of 2006, Dr. Feldstein indicated the probability that being so immersed in the videos likely enhanced Brett's post-surgical recovery by providing rich mental stimulation during a time when his expressive abilities were suppressed. As Brett recovered his health after the surgery, and he began to improve again, it was clear that during the set-back he had absorbed language and behavioral skills by watching the videos.
In the past couple of years, Brett's recovery has been impressive.Since his surgery, other Autistic children have been screened for the same abnormality.Preliminary observations by Dr. Feldstein are that the observance of Chiari Malformations among Autistic individuals occurs at significantly higher rates than among the typical population.
Today , six years after his diagnosis , Brett is in the 2nd grade. In spite of a dire early prognosis, he is mainstreamed in our local school district. He dives, plays little league, swims on a local team and teases his big sister. He continues to learn through video and is now focusing on getting his left-hand pitching down to a science. Most importantly he is very happy!!!I am over-booked with volunteer work at the local, state and national level advocating for our children.Grace is busy being an annoying big sister to Brett and being a wonderful, caring young lady. She is also working on writing and illustrating her first book , to be read in the next Watch Me LearnĀ® video.
