   According to Jack Feldman, President and Chief Executive Officer of First Commerce Bank, the 114% improvement in pre-tax income has enabled the Bank to profitably transition from utilizing prior years' net operating losses to reduce tax expense to its current fully taxable basis. He also noted the profit contribution resulting from the 41% year-over-year loan portfolio increase.

   When a "landlubber" like Jack Feldman, president and CEO of First Commerce Bank of Encino, Calif., had the opportunity to ride a Navy ship for a day, the choice was easy and he "leapt at it." Several other leaders in community, business and sports felt the same way and participated in the Navy's "Leaders to Sea" program January 17-19 onboard USS Decatur (DDG 73).
   
   For three consecutive days underway, Decatur hosted groups of community leaders interested in being part of a ship at sea. "This was no dog and pony show," said Cmdr.
