Mark Faubert, Canlan's B.C. regional manager, along with Josh Dickerson, Canlan's operations and production manager at the South Cariboo Recreation Centre (SCRC), presented their quarterly report to the South Cariboo Committee (SCC).

"For the first time we tried running multi-sport camps and out of the four we promoted, we ended up with two camps which for a brand new market is very good," said Faubert."As well, we were able to put the ice in August and run two hockey schools." Faubert credited the assistance of coaches such as Tom Lund and Chris Drouillard, and said this could only be done in a community such as 100 Mile.

"Some of the teams weren't able to get the ice time before," said Faubert."Because there's a tight group that already had all the ice time, they had to go to Lac la Hache and other places to get ice to play. Now they're able to rent ice in August."As well, Canlan was able to host two B.C.Junior Hockey League exhibition games between the Williams Lake Timberwolves and the Quesnel Millionaires. "We entertained 290 people on the Friday night and 240 on the Saturday," said Faubert, who credited Dickerson for the idea.

"The leather is actually being burned right off because of the deposits that are in the ice," said Faubert."They're dragging.Professionals won't drag as much as people who are just learning. But these are young people. Those figure skates are very expensive."Though Faubert and Dickerson said that when the Kube's have all been cleaned and are operating at full capacity, combined with the drop in morning and evening temperatures, things should be better.

Faubert and Dickerson supported the idea, and volunteered their time and resources to look into acquiring a more cost effective used floor.

"I think there's only going up from here," said Faubert in response."There's still so much opportunity.
