Ann Ewins
...
Ann Ewins joined the Cottage Gallery about 2 years ago.She paints mainly in Oils and Acrylic.
Born in England about 25 miles south of London, Ann has always had an artistic flare and from her childhood days was always busy drawing or sewing. She loved to be creative. After studying dress design and embroidery, she turned to floral design as her chosen career. For over 25 years her designs were seen in many hotels, offices and homes in and around Ascot and London, England.
Ann Ewins, Artist
Ann started painting in oils about 20 years ago but with a flower business to run and two children to raise, she could not devote as much time to painting as she would have liked. She came to California several years ago with husband Peter and now spends her time studying art and painting.Ann has tried various mediums; she studied watercolour, pastels, and portraits with Drew Bandish, acrylics with Marie Wordell, oil and landscapes with Betty Blount and Laurie Carlock. She finds painting very relaxing and absorbing."Time just flies when I'm painting," she says.
Inspiration for her painting comes from her love of nature, particularly the surrounding area of Mission Trails Park and Lake Murray. She walks there most days and usually takes her camera with her.Sometimes she gets nostalgic and paints her native countryside, for this she has to rely on books and photo albums.
She has been a member of Foothills Art Association for 4 years, and joined Southwestern Artists Association in 2002.She has been the recipient of two popular awards for her paintings "Sussex in Winter" and her rendition of renowned artist John Constable's "The Haywain".
She has sold many of her paintings in Europe, the USA and Canada.
