During this time, I had the chance to speak with Lead Level Designer Dave Ewing who provided a quick demonstration in his office of how the levels are put together.Much of it is done with pre-built pieces.Instead of creating every part of every level individually, the team created huge libraries of parts that can be assembled in innumerable combinations. They can also be modified almost instantly; Dave showed how he could take a doorway section and make it look very different just by lowering its height and doubling its width. He also explained that the system required a huge amount of work up-front to create the section libraries, but that it is now much faster to assemble a level, even adding unique parts, than it was to make one from scratch before.
