  With over 40 years in conservation and environmentalism, Ernie has been a steward of the land long before the term became popular, and he has set an outstanding example of how to build a strong, more cohesive stewardship community, not only in Alberta but across Canada.

  Ernie was a founding member of the Land Stewardship Centre of Canada and has been its Executive Director for over 11 years. He has more than 40 years' involvement in conservation, focussing on ecologically sustainable land use. Ernie led development of the Alberta Stewardship Network, which was developed to assist community-based stewardship groups. He has participated in provincial Water for Life, Wetland Policy, Integrated Land Management, and Land-use Framework. He was a founding member of the Edmonton & Area Land Trust, and the Alberta Land Trust Alliance, and represents national NGO 's on the Board of the Stewardship Centre for B.C.
