Troy Evans
...
The Teaching Team: Troy Evans
Troy teaches for Swing Patrol down South at Mornington and also at Hampton.
Troy began swing in 2002, when her overly enthusiastic friend Libby Dragged her to witness and participate in her first lesson in Frankston . Despite being slightly skeptical (Troy is not always Madam Co-ordination) she found herself befriending that strange creature that is the Beginner's Charleston....and from then onwards became a committed swinger...um..swing dancer that is.
Never one for resting on her laurels, Troy soon began frequenting swing venues (her first funpit, wearing a halo..embarrassing? yes), going to Glen Waverly to do double time for the Hello Dolly routine Henry groupie? yes.) and asking Scott to dance after two and a half months of lessons at the MLX social night, a meeting which Scott has a story for, which he'll tell to anyone anywhere, at any time.Really.Don't even ask.Just look at him sideways and he'll tell you.
Despite some occasions of spectacular clumsiness, Troy does actually have a dance and music history. She has studied jazz and tap and once did a single lesson of classical ballet with a group of miniscule, reed-like six year olds which will never, from this moment on, be mentioned again.Always a fan of things that make loud noises (meet her, then you'll understand) Troy played the trumpet in a swing band for two years, when her career as a musician was cruelly cut short due to her finishing year 12 and having her beautiful silver Yamaha prized from her small grubby hand. She has never been able to save enough money to buy another....
As anyone that has met Troy can attest to, she is a girl of many, many words, in fact some would say that the only way to achieve silence in the presence of "The Troyster" is through the methods of excessive cake, or a large roll of industrial strength packing tape. However, you will not find a more enthusiastic, happy-go-lucky swing chick, which kind of makes up for having to feed her about fifty times a day.
Troy says "Ask anyone to dance!Just get up and do it!Even if you fall on your face, always make sure you're smiling when you do.The best thing about swing is anyone can succeed, because the main aim should always be to have fun."
You will usually find Troy in the company of a very special guy that once had a mohawk, but really looks much better without it ... hee hee, sorry Jimmy.
