Alice Evans obtained degrees in bacteriology from Cornell and Madison.Employed in 1910 by the US Dept. of Agriculture, Dairy Division, she contracted undulant fever and is best known for clarifying the role of pasteurization of milk in killing Bacillus abortus which causes undulant fever.In 1928 she was the first woman president of the Society of American Bacteriology.
