"He just destroyed the field last year, blew the race into a thousand pieces and he basically replicated that ride that he did at Univest last year in a stage of the Tour de France," said John Eustice, president of Sparta Cycling and the UGP's race promoter.
Frischkorn, riding for the Garmin-Chipotle team in its first Tour de France appearance, didn't win the stage earlier this summer, but he came in a close second, Eustice said at an Aug. 11 press conference in Doylestown to talk about this year's Univest Grand Prix, which will be Saturday, Sept. 6 in Souderton and Sunday, Sept. 7 in Doylestown.
"This race has spawned many champions of the future," Eustice said.
Following Frischkorn's success at the Tour de France, sportswriters unfamiliar with his background asked about his past.
"He goes, 'I won the Univest Grand Prix,"' Eustice said.
The response from the writers was "the what?"Eustice said."But the point is the Univest Grand Prix made it into the Tour de France press room and it was a big deal and I think that really showed what this race is about, what its purpose is, and what we hope to do in the future."
Frischkorn and other members of the Garmin-Chipotle team, which surprised many in the cycling world with the team's better than expected performance at this year's Tour de France, will be coming to this year's Univest Grand Prix, Eustice said.

There will be two Jumbotron television screens in Souderton during the race, Eustice said.
