    John Eusden won his age group, 80, plus in the 25 kilometer division, while son Dyke came in ninth overall in the 50 k. race.There were a total of 11 family members in the event and the Eusden Family was declared the winner, with a four-year-old grandson the youngest racer.

    John, a retired Williams College religion professor and the retired pastor of the Congregational Church in Old Bennington is not only an old timer, but he races with both knees replaced by composite units.A few years ago he won his age in the U.S. Nationals at Lake Placid, where the U.S. National Alpine Championships are currently taking place.

    John Eusden has also won his division in various bike races to the summits of Mount Greylock, Whiteface Mountain and Mount Washington.

    Steve Whitham of Prospect Mountain, said that John Eusden is one of his most faithful skiers there and predicts that he will be able to ski there until May.

    John Eusden has been a theology educator, minister, researcher, and writer throughout his 50-plus year professional career.He has served on the faculty of Yale, Mount Holyoke, and Williams College.At Williams, Professor Eusden served as Chaplain of the college while he taught introductory religion, East Asian religious studies, and environmental ethics for more than 30 years.

    Dr. Eusden has served as minister in churches in Williamstown and North Adams, Massachusetts, Bennington, Vermont and Randolph, New Hampshire.

    Dr. Eusden's writing and research interests have centered around 17th century philosophy and theology, the history of religions -- with emphasis on China and Japan - aesthetics, environmental ethics, and most recently, healing and wellness issues.He is the author of five books and dozens of articles on these topics.

    John Eusden is also a lifetime competitive athlete in cycling, swimming, and cross country skiing.Highlights from his career include: his participation in the wartime Olympics in 1943, where he competed in the individual butterfly event and his relay team set a world's record in the crawl stroke; racing his bike up Mount Washington annually until he turned 80; a multitude of cross country ski races every year all over New England; and his annual bicycle race up Mount Greylock, the highest mountain in Massachusetts, including two weeks ago at 83.He won his age group that day .....
