Dr. Herman E. Eure, Ph.D.Ecological Animal Parasitologist

Dr. Eure is Professor of Biology, Wake Forest University, and Associate Dean of the College.Host parasite interactions are the primary focus of his research.How these parasite interact with their hosts and the various factors that impact on that relationship is studied in vertebrate organisms ranging from frog, toad, turtles to fish.He is interested in determining how factors such as host diet, temperature, availability of infective intermediate host, host sex and age influence the seasonality of parasite populations.An additional interest lies in how these populations are regulated, both at the intermediate and definitive host levels.He has been the recipient of several awards during his academic career: Wake Forest's highest award for teaching, The 2001 Jon Reinhardt Award for Distinguished Teaching and the University's highest award for outstanding advising of students (1992); The recipient of the Yokley Faculty Service Award from the Beta Beta Beta National Biological Honor Society; and a 1997 recipient of NAFEO's Distinguished Alumni Citation Award from the University of Maryland, Eastern Shore.He was also the Chair of the Department of Biology at Wake Forest University for 8 years, from 1998-2006.

After one of Howard's many on-court incidents that resulted in yet another technical foul, Dr. Herman Eure, the chairman of Wake Forest's biology department, had seen enough.

"It incensed the hell out of me," Eure recalled."I went the next week to find him.I ran into him, and I told him who I was.I said 'Now you don't know me from Adam, and you can tell me to go to hell once I leave and everything is fine.But the behavior you exhibited the other night was embarrassing to me as a black man.You do not have to respond that way.' He stood there , and he listened, and he acknowledged it.
