Haleigh Euratte, 15, decided to work her summer vacation after taking a child-care class at Lely High School, where she is a student.
"Working with kids interests me, so I decided up to sign up for the (YMCA's) summer camp, and they hired me," Euratte said.
"I'm working to make money to save for a car next year."
In her capacity as a camp counselor, Euratte assists with arts and crafts, games and sports such as kick ball at the summer venue, which comprises the rooms and grounds of the Marco Island Charter Middle School.
"I get my first paycheck Friday (June 13), and I plan to put the money in the bank," Euratte said.
Kevin Freeling is a year older than Matthews and Euratte, and picked up some on-the-job experience at his dad Lee's Marco Small Engine Repair business when he was younger.
Over the past couple of years he's also worked as a bagger at Publix, but thinks he's found his extramural business niche at the True Value store, situated diagonally opposite the Shops of Marco off South Barfield Drive.
Haleigh Euratte is spending her summer vacation as a counselor for YMCA summer camp activities. She says she enjoys working with children. -
