   Eugenio is the co-director of the Filipino Festival, which celebrates the culture of the Philippines.

   "To develop an event where people come together is a wonderful thing," Eugenio said.
   
   To prepare for the event, volunteers began cooking a month ago. But some dishes can't be frozen. That means the days leading up to the event will be hectic as chefs marinate and then refrigerate chicken, vegetables and pork.
   
   "Our food is different than most," Eugenio said. "It's fresher. That preserves the flavor."
   
   Eugenio, a pediatrician in Mechanicsville, moved from the Philippines in 1994. He is proud, he said, to share his culture with others.
   
   "Last year, Filipinos were the minority at the festival," he said.
