Ben moved to Waynesville, NC in 1994 to attend forestry school and work as a rock climbing guide.In 1997 he began to volunteer at a local Christian youth camp during the summer.In 1998 he started to develop a wilderness adventure camp in order to share his love of the outdoors and of Christ.The program became a year-round event and in 2001, Ben moved to Bryson City to work full time as the director until 2006.
The ideas for PEAK were conceived in 2005 around a table with three others.In 2006, PEAK launched.
Ben is certified in Wilderness First Responder, ACA Kayak instructor, Single Rope Technique, ACA Swift Water Rescue and is currently working towards ACA Swift Water Rescue Instructor and Wilderness EMT for fall of 2007.
Ben works as a youth leader in his local Church and plays electric guitar in a local Christian band.He also serves on the Board of Directors for Lost Souls Ministries, a skateboarding outreach ministry, and served on the Board of Directors for the Christian Wilderness Leaders Coalition and is president of the Bryson City chapter of the National Speleological Society.
Ben lives in Bryson City with his wife Erin who also works at PEAK as a trip leader.
