"We sometimes forget that kids require time to relax," said John Eubanks, a certified child psychologist for the Rapides Parish School District.

He said many times it is the children who try to attempt more than they can handle.

"All of us as parents need to watch to help kids stayed balanced," Eubanks said.

An average child is not going to say he or she wants to drop baseball or dance line because they have too much homework, Eubanks said.

Parents should talk with and listen to their children. They might not say they are overloaded or frustrated but will give some sign of needing to

Students also feel pressure when transitioning between elementary school and junior high or high school, and standardized testing has put added pressure on them.

Today's students have a lot going on, Eubanks said.

Iyesha said she always had been taught that staying busy keeps a person out of trouble. The Alexandria Senior High School student said she does get overloaded from time to time and stays up late to finish homework. Sometimes, she thinks she should quit something.

"There is just nothing I want to give up," she said as she watched her fellow flag corps members practice.

BENOIT - The students at Ray Brooks School received a special treat Tuesday when Washington Redskins defensive back John Eubanks dropped in to share some encouraging words with the group.

Eubanks, a former Cleveland High and Southern Miss standout, spoke to the students about being disciplined in life, working hard and having determination to be the best in whatever they decide to become.

Eubanks made the trip to the school courtesy of an invite from another former Cleveland High football standout, Jordan Goins, Jr. who's also the fourth and fifth grade math teacher.
    ...
I'm thankful to John, he's a very humble guy and I appreciate him coming out to do this."

Because Eubanks is a local product, Goins thought it would impact kids in the long run knowing that they can achieve even if they're from a small town with a small school.

"Seeing someone like John, who has gone on to the NFL, is a good thing for the kids to see.
    ...
I just wanted to share my feelings about hardwork and determination in life period," Eubanks said.

"Hopefully I can be influential to kids about being successful. Even though I'm not from Benoit, I'm a from the area and I just want to give back to the place that has given me a great deal of support," Eubanks continued.

He added that ultimately his desire is to stir up the minds of young people to understand that they can go pro in things other than professional sports.

While talking to the students Eubanks said, "You can be anything - not just a football player - but if you want to be a football player work your hardest to be the best leader you can be and work to improve everyday."
