Magsaysay Village, a squatter community within the worlds largest slum on the edge of Manila Bay, the Philippines is home to 1,000 alienated families who struggle to survive in a hostile political and urban environment. Dr. Etherington spent over 2 years as a residence of Magsaysay Village. He is the founder and first chairperson of the Department of Architecture at the University of Hawai'i. He is also the founder and director of Habitech Research Center at the Asian Institute of Technology, Thailand.
