   When a close friend of Erik Etchinson's was diagnosed with leukemia he wanted to do something to help her. He offered his support and caring, but felt he wanted to do something more. That "wanting to do something more" has led to a full-scale benefit concert for not only Erik's friend, but others that have been diagnosed with the disease as well. Erik has put together a concert, set for Saturday, 7:30 p.m. at Peterson Auditorium.

   "I knew Mrs. Suschil when I was in school there and when I heard about Malyna I wanted her to be included as well," Erik said.

   Erik will also be selling copies of his first CD single "Wings to Fly," as well as T-shirts, and photos. All monies raised from those sales will be directly given to the families as well. "It was my hope in organizing this that these victims and their families realize that if they need anything that we as a community are there," Erik said. "It's not so much the money, but these people are going through hard times having to deal with all this and I think it's important that they realize they are not being overlooked by their neighbors." Joining Erik for the concert will be several local musicians, which together comprise the "Erik Matthew Band."

   Erik is a familiar face on the local music and stage scene. While a student at Mason County Central, he appeared in many stage productions including Michael in "Peter Pan" and the lead role in "Oliver." His sophomore year, he moved to the Ludington school system and was active in choir and the "Sound Explosion" show choir. His two years as a student at West Shore Community College found him singing with "The Collegiates." Next month he will travel to Tennessee to audition for a position in the vocal music/performance school at Middle Tennessee State University in Nashville. He is also trying to get an audition for employment as a singer on the Disney Cruise Line.
