   Hasslen ) Helen M. , of Mendota Heights , died on July 16 , 2001 after a courageous bout with cancer. She was preceded in death by parents , Harry & Marie Hasslen. She is survived by Frank , her loving husband of 48 years ; brothers and sisters-in-law , Joseph & Beverly Filipczak of Evansville , IN ; and John & Myrna Filipczak of White Bear Lake. Helen was a lifelong member , National Officer and State Director for the Degree of Honor Protective Association. Member of Eagle Fraternal Life Association , Columbian Women's Association and a Charter Member of Hi-Grove Post 8833 VFW Auxilliary. She was a past State President of the MN Fraternal Congress and the MN African Violet Society , also Past President of the Inter Club Council of St. Paul. Mass of Christian Burial 10 : 30 AM Thursday at the CHURCH OF ST. PETER , 1405 Hwy. 13 , Mendota. Private interment Fort Snelling National Cemetery. Visitation at WILLWERSCHEID & PETERS MORTUARY , 1167 Grand Ave. 4-8 PM Wednesday with Rosary and Prayer Service at 7 PM and at church 1 hour prior to mass. Memorials preferred to Our Lady of Good Counsel Home , 2076 St. Anthony Ave. , St. Paul , MN 55104 or to the Degree of Honor Foundation Scholarship fund or to donor's choice. 651-228-1006.
