JACKSONVILLE, FL - Lake Worth, Fla. artist Phillip Estlund has installed a large-scale sculpture in the lobby of the new University Park Branch Library, 3435 University Boulevard N. The artist, a graduate of the Douglas Anderson School of the Arts in Jacksonville, will offer a free public lecture about his work on Wednesday, October 14 at 7:00 p.m. at the new branch library. The project is part of Jacksonville's Art in Public Places Program.
The sculpture, entitled "Aquacycle," consists of eight panels fabricated by thermo-forming acrylic sheets. Mounted in a niche in the library's lobby, it is a focal point for visitors entering the building.
Phillip Estlund was born in Athens, Greece in 1974 and moved to Jacksonville, Fla. with his family three years later. After graduating from the Douglas Anderson School of the Arts in 1992, he attended the Maryland Institute, College of Art in Baltimore and studied at the Academie voor Beeldende Vorming in the Netherlands. His work has been widely exhibited. Estlund is currently the Exhibition Coordinator for the Palm Beach Institute of Contemporary Art.
In addition to his lecture at the branch library, Estlund will present a master class at his alma mater, Douglas Anderson School of the Arts on Friday, October 15. Estlund will conduct the master class with his former sculpture instructor, Kenneth Hatcher. -

Phillip Estlund of Lake Worth, Fla., has been selected to create a wall relief sculpture which will be installed in a niche in the entrance corridor of the new library. Estlund, a Jacksonville native and graduate of Douglas Anderson School of the Arts, will work with large-scale acrylic panels which overlap and conform to fit into the concave contour of the niche. The art work will be entitled "Aquacycle." Estlund is the Director of Exhibitions at Palm Beach County's Institute of Contemporary Art. His work has been exhibited in Baltimore, San Francisco and Miami.
