ADAM ESCH: Eighth-grader joins ranks of Eagle Scouts

ACCOMPLISHMENTS: Adam Esch recently attained the rank of Eagle Scout, the pinnacle of achievement with Boy Scouts of America.He became involved in scouting when he was 7 years old and is a member of Boy Scout Troop 105 in Cedar Lake.Esch advanced through the ranks and in preparation for his promotion developed a required service project.He planned, secured funding for and constructed a wooden storage shed for Cedar Lake United Methodist Church, where the troop meets weekly.Fellow scouts, family members and friends assisted Esch; the project logged 140.5 service hours."I had a goal and wanted to make it -- I didn't stop," he said.Esch will remain active in scouting.He hopes to work with the younger scouts "and be an example to them."Esch is an eighth-grader at Hanover Central Junior-Senior High School.He is a member of National Junior Honor Society, Builders Club (a division of Kiwanis Club) and plays bass clarinet in the band.He also is active with Basic, the youth group at
