The relationship between ND REC/RTC began long ago when Pathfinder's director, Kathryn Erickson, was the first woman elected to serve on a rural electric distribution cooperative board in North Dakota.She served four consecutive three-year terms, after which she retired from the board to concentrate on directing Pathfinder.When Pathfinder had the opportunity to compete for federal funding to become a Parent training and Information Center, the ND REC/RTC wrote a letter of support, emphasizing Pathfinder's importance to rural families in North Dakota.
She said in a recent interview, "I received excellent training by serving on the board, and it prepared me for being a director."
