Jill is an Associate Editor with Art Jewelry magazine where her assignments include writing and researching instructional project articles, working with contributing authors, and performing product testing for reviews.Jill also teaches at the Bead & Button Show and creates instructional videos for AJ magazine's online site.

Before joining AJ, Jill enjoyed a 10-year run as proprietor of Create A Scene, her custom mural service.Putting her undergraduate, MA, and MFA degrees in painting and drawing to work, she designed and painted murals for residential and commercial clients. Her brochure, The Big Picture: or How to Start a Mural Business, became a frequently requested resource for up and coming mural artists.

After working on such a large scale for a decade, Jill redirected her energy, and began to focus on making jewelry. She now concentrates on creating wearable pieces that allow her to explore an endless array of media, materials, and themes. She is especially keen on borrowing from techniques associated with printmaking, book arts, textile arts, photography, and ceramic arts. For Jill, jewelry making is the ideal way to experiment with all kinds of materials -- metals, metal clay, enamels, polymer clay, resin, beeswax, glass, found objects, and then some. The odd bits of natural history ephemera she's been collecting since childhood can now be incorporated into her work. Finally, a purpose for that cabinet of curiosities she's been adding to since she found her first fossil!

A native Wisconsinite, Jill lives in the metro-Milwaukee area with her husband, Jerry, who indulges her tendency to turn every room of their home into studio space.

After making really big things (murals), Jill decided to focus her attention on really small things (jewelry), and created Cheeky Monkey Designs, under which she makes and sells her jewelry.Initially, Jill concentrated on making custom photo and image transfer pieces, like the brooches she was commissioned to make for the Milwaukee Public Museum. Now, Jill's repertoire includes metalsmithing and mixed media pieces.

pinsAs a business owner, Jill engages the professional talents of photographer Deone Jahnke and web designer Bruce Seeds to help her brand and market Cheeky Monkey Designs.

Jill is a member of the Women Business Owner's Network, the National Polymer Clay Guild and the Milwaukee Book Arts Salon.A firm believer in the importance of surrounding yourself with creative, positive-minded folks, Jill considers herself fortunate to have found these communities.
