The KMPG rating is like a "seal of approval" that business owners use when looking at locations, said Erickson."We have a substantial labour market and skilled labour," he added.Erickson conceded that many of the new businesses that have come to Chatham-Kent were telephone services that employ non-union workers.Erickson said he can't figure out why some of the larger businesses such as manufacturing plants don't want to come to Chatham-Kent.But he said the chamber is pleased there are a number of businesses with fewer than 25 employees that do business with other enterprises in the municipality."Chatham-Kent is a great place to do business. There's a good environment, good markets and good property taxes."Erickson added that the recreation-wellness centre being examined by council would help to attract more businesses to the community."It would be part of the package-along with the Capitol Theatre , that would help attract business here."Erickson said the $30-million recreation centre would not be a burden to taxpayers because "municipal assets" could be sold off.
