"We teach all of the curriculum through arts immersion," said Dale Erickson, principal of the new Calgary Arts Academy, located in the city's southwest.

He said parents seem to appreciate having a variety of education options, as the phone is constantly ringing at the school.

Already, the facility is almost at capacity, with 215 students enrolled in kindergarten to Grade 9.

"Charter schools are great because they are free and are the most innovative," said Erickson.

In 2006, Mr. Erickson was invited by the Beijing Ministry of Education and Tianjiao International to speak on arts immersion education at the educational forum.Upon returning home, Mr. Erickson was asked to be a board member of Tianjiao International.
