Scientists equate human genetic variation more closely with ancestral history than they do with race, which is a self-defined concept, Phyllis Griffin Epps, a research professor at the Health Law & Policy Institute at the University of Houston, said at the annual meeting of the American Association for the Advancement of Science earlier this year.
