Fayette Engstrom

Under the medical direction of pediatrician Fayette Engstrom, MD, children undergo forensic medical examinations involving evidence collection and digital videography that documents abusive injuries.

Fayette Engstrom is a pediatrician from Talbot County, Maryland, and the President of the Maryland Assembly on School-Based Health Care

The CAC team includes pediatrician Elizabeth Mason, MD, who is the CAC medical director, and pediatrician Fayette Engstrom, MD. Other team members are Shore Health System nurses trained in sexual assault investigations and representatives from TCDSS, law enforcement and the State Attorney's office.

This did not stop local pediatricians Betsy Mason, MD, and Fayette Engstrom, MD, who wanted to ensure that there were medical services for child victims of sexual abuse on Maryland's Eastern Shore.

Dr. Engstrom, a pediatrician who was at one time in practice with Dr. Mason, served as a resource to physicians in the area for child abuse cases prior to the Children's Advocacy Center's inception.

Although now retired, Dr. Engstrom still feels a sense of obligation to children of child abuse, working in the Center one week a month and mentoring the Center's SAFE nurses.

Although Drs.Mason and Engstrom acknowledge the significance of their roles in providing the medical evaluation of child abuse victims, both recognize that it takes an entire team of professionals to care for these children and their families.
