  Eric Engstrom is currently a trustee of the Rhode Island School of Design, of which he serves as Chair of the Committee on Trustees and as a member of the board's Executive Committee.Eric recently was awarded membership in the Hospitality Design Platinum Circle, an elite group of individuals honored for their leadership and service in hospitality design.An IIDA member since 1978, he has served as a juror for the HD/IIDA Hospitality Design Product Design Competition, as a Director of the Northern California Chapter of IIDA, and as a juror for the Chapter's annual Student Design Competition.He is a member of the San Francisco Hospitality Industry Association, and an associate member of the AIA.He has spoken at many national conferences including IIDEX/Neocon Canada, Neocon, and HD1999 and HD2000.Mr. Engstrom is President of Engstrom Design Group (edg) in San Rafael, California. edg has designed restaurants for noted chefs Wolfgang Puck, Bradley Ogden, Seiji Wakabayashi, and Kent Rathbun.Other edg clients include Nordstrom, Marriott, Hilton, Big Rock Restaurant group, and Constellation Concepts.

  Eric Engstrom received his BFA degree from the Rhode Island School of Design and entered the design field as an illustrator and graphic designer for museums and architects in the late 1960s.He was also involved in designing stage sets and posters for rock ‘n' roll performers in Boston and New York.He did post-graduate work at the Boston Museum School, The University of Massachusetts at Dartmouth, and the Boston Architectural Center where he later taught.
  
  In the early 1970s he and his family relocated to Honolulu where he joined Architects Hawaii Limited (AHL).He passed the NCIDQ exam, becoming a certified interior designer in 1978.After moving to the San Francisco Bay Area, Engstrom joined restaurant specialist Wudtke Watson Davis, and in 1985 he moved to head up the interiors group of Frizzell Hill Architects, in 1987 he founded Engstrom Design Group, now EDG.EDG has grown to a thirty-person interior architecture and design office concentrating on restaurant design.
  
  Eric became active in the International Interior Design Association in the 1990s, and served on the international board and as President of the organization in 2005-2006.He was elected to the IIDA College of Fellows in 2005.He was honored by Hospitality Design magazine for excellence in restaurant design in 2001 being elected to the magazine's Platinum Circle honor society.He served on his alma mater RISD's Board of Trustees from 1997 through 2004.
  
  Eric retired from EDG in 2007 and has transitioned to a new career as a lecturer, photographer and digital collage artist.A fine artist and photographer throughout his design career, Eric began a new direction in 2005 when he was commissioned to create five 30" x 96" canvases based on his Route 66 photo collages for the EDG renovation and redesign of Wolfgang Puck's signature Spago restaurant in Las Vegas.
