Just ask business pioneer Don Elliot, President of applied Bio-nomics Ltd., who knows all about being his own boss and running the whole show.Operating one of Canada's largest "beneficial bug farms", Elliot formed his company 19 years ago in response to a growing need for pest control alternatives. Thanks to keen interest from provincial and federal agriculture officials and grower worried about the effects of pests on their crops, plus a grant of $100,000 over five years from the Agriculture Rural Development Subsidiary Agreement, Elliot was able to develop a natural counter attack for the pest problems by introducing "super bugs", parasites and predator into the marketplace at the right time.

A leader among high tech entrepreneurs, Elliot admits he had no business experience before opening his "bug farm", but advises others toying with the idea of starting a business to have a good business plan and to keep cost down for at least two years.
