Jim Ekins, Community Outreach Specialist (AmeriCorps Member)Jim Ekins grew up in western North Carolina and at an early age learned to do trail work, canoe and backpack.He earned a B.S. in Water Resources Management from Western Carolina U and became a park ranger at New River Gorge in West Virginia and then Canyonlands in Utah.He learned to backcountry ski on Monarch and Copper Mountains in Colorado, and later trekked to K2 in Pakistan and worked two seasons at McMurdo Station in Antarctica.After his international sojourn, he earned a Masters in Planning from U of Oregon.Download his thesis, 769kb.There he discovered a passion for ecological restoration; this is also where met his wife, LT.He helped design the Karnowsky Creek restoration project (Theiss International River Prize 2004) and was the Lower Coyote Creek Historic Restoration project manager.Jim and LT moved to Worcester, MA for a couple of years, where he became the Clark University Arboretum Steward.Happily back in the northwest, Jim looks forward to canoeing, skijoring, hiking, bicycling, and running.Download his resume.jim@pcei.org
