Bruce Eissner, CEO of Orbidex.com, says that the reasons for choosing Providence included easy access to qualified people, affordable commercial real estate, advanced broadband infrastructure, state tax advantages, and training incentives offered by the Rhode Island Economic Development Corporation..Rhode Island Governor Lincoln Almond is encouraging the development of the state's high-technology industries.In March 2000 he announced a partnership with the federal government to pursue the construction of a facility adjacent to the Naval Undersea Warfare Center (NUWC) in Middletown for state/federal technology collaborations, start-up ventures, and technology-transfer activities.NUWC currently has more than 1, 800 scientists and engineers developing technology for the U.S. Navy.The new facility would serve as an incubator for ventures that would have access to NUWC's advanced scientific equipment, including acoustic sensors, propulsion test facilities, high-performance computers, simulation-based design, high-tech prototyping facilities, and research water and wind tunnels.Mirror Image Inc., a high-tech silk- screening company, moved to Rhode Island after outgrowing its former facility.
