   On the eve of the National Outdoor Championships, Texas A&M archery head coach Kathy Eissinger was notified that A&M Athletic Director Bill Byrne has plans to cut archery from its varsity status unless the team can find private funding.

   "Eissinger has done a terrific job with the program," Byrne said.

   Eissinger said Byrne wants A&M to win the Sears Cup, the award that goes to the institution with the greatest achievement among all NCAA-sponsored sports. Currently archery is not sponsored by the NCAA.

   The end of competition on Sunday marked the final appearance of Kathy Eissinger as the Texas A&M women's archery coach. Eissinger has been A&M's only head coach in each of the Aggies' five varsity seasons. She is moving to Utah to join her husband, who has been living there for the past year-and-a-half.
   
   " The last five years have been really fun and exciting, watching this team grow and mature," Eissinger said. "It's been fun getting them to the level they have been competing at.
