  The fire caused severe damage to the alkylation unit at the plant , according to UDS Senior Vice President Paul Eisman.
  
  Eisman says the fire has been contained and will be allowed to burn itself out , after all fuel remaining in the unit has been consumed.
  
  Actually it's safer when you let the fire burn itself out , because you have the fuels which you really can't control any other way but by letting it burn itself out , Eisman said.
  
  The fire forced the evacuation of nearly the entire town of Three Rivers.Many of the company employees evacuating the plant had red eyes and smelled of gasoline.
