Joel Eisinger is an associate professor of art history at the University of Minnesota, Morris. He teaches courses ranging from nineteenth and twentieth-century American and European art, to African American art and Chinese art, as well as his specialty, the history of photography. Eisinger is currently researching a book on photography and white racial identity in the United States. From 2000 to fall 2004, Eisinger was the editor of exposure, the journal of the Society for Photographic Education. His first book, Trace and Transformation: American Theory and Criticism of Photography in the Modernist Period (Albuquerque: University of New Mexico Press, 1995) was named an Outstanding Academic Book for 1996 by the American Library Association's Choice magazine. -
