Art Eisenstein, president of the Greater Bowie Chamber of Commerce, has been one of the most visible community members at meeting after meeting all year ever since he took on the presidency of the chamber last summer.
Eisenstein, who stepped in when newly elected president John Ceschini resigned, had as his goal this past year to make sure everyone knew the chamber was involved with local businesses and the community at large.

"Those businesses are concerned that once the new Route 450 is completed the bridge by J-Mart will be closed for rebuilding," said Eisenstein, "and people will forget their businesses."
A name for their area, like Old Town Bowie is named, will help ensure they survive, he said."The Old Town Bowie Revitalization Committee is working hard to revitalize that area, " he said."There is so much history there and the new ongoing programs, like the matching grant program, are helping with that revitalization."
"Of course near and dear to my heart is the Main Street corridor," Eisenstein said.He owns Time Piece Jewelers at Free State Mall and two other stores in other areas of the state."My business is here and I'm hoping with the new Route 450 that all the shopping centers along the way will soon be thriving again, ' he said.
"I'm glad to be a part of the city's new Economic Development Committee along with other chamber members," Eisenstein said."The individuals in that group bring extensive backgrounds and skills that will assist all areas of Bowie to grow economically."
Eisenstein steps down as president in June, but he plans to stay involved and hopes the next board will continue to be enthusiastic to get the chamber out in the community.
