To local veteran Gary Eisenhower Sr., the Allied Veterans Council's annual Veterans Day Observance ceremony set for Tuesday, November 11, 2008, will be a way to honor all veterans and the important contributions they have made to preserve this nation's freedom.
"It's just a day set aside that we should honor people who have taken that one step forward to protect the freedoms we all enjoy in this country," said Eisenhower, who serves as the current president of the Allied Veterans Council, and the president of the Freeport Chapter of VietNow.

Eisenhower said he hopes the debate performance Tuesday will encourage more veterans and area residents to become interested in this area's rich history.
"If some of these veterans have never participated in studying history itself or learning about the Civil War, hopefully with [the performance] it will generate some interest," Eisenhower said.
