The sharp-recoiling little Model 26 was found to be too small for police work, and traded by Police Chief Gary Eisenhower to a local gun dealer for a larger Glock.

The Glock is the infamous plastic gun hyped by Handgun Control Inc. in the early 1980's as invisible to airport X-ray machines. The polymer frame may have been, but the rest of the gun and its cartridges showed up in great detail.

It has become a favorite with police departments, and was adopted several years ago by the Washington, D.C., P.D.

The claim says Officer Stratton, 33, was a victim of former Police Chief Gary Eisenhower's "continuous sexual harassment since she became employed with the CPD" two years before.Incidents, the claim says, included various comments to Stratton, discussing "inappropriate personal issues" with her and humiliating her in other ways.

    ...
In response to a Daily World request May 6 for a copy of any such complaint, written or verbal, City Clerk Donna Caton wrote June 12 the city had "no document of any kind of allegations, complaints, claims of sexual harassment by Chief Gary Eisenhower, including past or present, on file."
    ...
Bramstedt did say this morning, however, that on or about "the same day that all this started with Gary," Bramstedt was made aware "of indirect information that I was given that came from the union regarding allegations that there was sexual harassment.

Eisenhower, 54, had been off the job since May 2, when he resigned last month, effective Aug. 31.Until then, he was on medical leave. The city issued a statement May 6 that he would be seeking a medical disability because of a stroke he had suffered last fall.

At the same time, another Cosi police officer had reported seeing Eisenhower viewing images of naked women on a department computer while on duty, according to a Daily World investigation.A disk with the same images Eisenhower had allegedly been viewing reportedly had been found by another member of the Police Department.

The city's May 6 statement said the chief, who suffered a stroke last fall, "will leave office immediately" because of "his post - stroke medical condition รค"

A few days later, Mayor Bramstedt said Eisenhower was on medical leave, and he did not expect him to return to work.

In his letter of resignation dated July 31, Eisenhower wrote, "As suspected, my doctor has confirmed I suffered another stroke, apparently having occurred when I fell in my office on April 18, 2002.

"As a result, my physical and psychological health declined to such a state that I had to give recovery my full attention. It has become apparent my health to date has not been regained and my prognosis does not include full recovery."

Officer Stratton's claim seeks $50,000 for her "pain and suffering," and $2,100 for attorney fees.Additionally, "medical and professional counseling" costs and "separate locker room facilities" at the police department are being asked.

Cosmopolis Police Chief Gary Eisenhower said so far strikers are making themselves known but not breaking the law.

"Aside from a little frustrating incident yesterday, it looks like things are going relatively well," the chief said.

It's frustrating, he said, because there's no play book."One group of strikers will allow people in, then others will not. There's not much consistency there," he said. That's when police get called.

"Our goal is to maintain order. We want to maintain ingress and egress, and not block the highway, so our citizens still can pass and maintain their lives safely," Eisenhower said."We don't take sides and we respond to calls and do whatever needs to be done."

That said, the calls they've responded to have been for "very very minor incidents," he said. Those cases involved instances where blockages went on too long, and the shouting became too vehement.""There are always going to be a couple of people who cross the line and are more emotional than the others, but if all you have to deal with is a little bit of yelling, I call that fairly minor."

Meantime, there has been speculation that if the strike drags on, Weyerhaeuser might make more use of the Port of Grays Harbor.

In return, the department received a larger Glock pistol, says Cosmopolis Police Chief Gary Eisenhower. The gun dealer sold the Glock 26 to a private individual, and it ultimately wound up at a gun show before reaching Mr. Furrow's hands.it be upsetting, says Chief Eisenhower, that his five-person department's old gun was used in the killing, though he says that with a $ 400, 000 annual budget, he can not afford simply to destroy used service weapons. But it be not an isolated incident.Data obtained by The Wall Street Journal under the Freedom of Information Act show that at least 1, 100 former police guns were among the 193, 203 crime guns traced last year by the federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms.
