Elise Eisenhower hit a high note in her life when she arrived in Waynesboro four months ago.
Eisenhower, the new director of music ministry at First Presbyterian Church in Waynesboro, has been making waves through the church with her upbeat attitude and new ideas.
...
Before coming to Waynesboro, Eisenhower was the director of music at Little Falls Presbyterian Church in Arlington for 12 years. In the past, she has served as the conductor-in-residence and director of choral activities at American University in Washington, D.C.; the assistant professor of music at Adams State College in Alamosa, Colo.; and various other conducting positions with university, community and church choirs.
A trip to Sweden left Eisenhower with a desire to serve.
"I was ready to give back my gift to others," she said.
...
A job search led Eisenhower to locations all over the country, but eventually her sights settled on the "small" town of Waynesboro. She moved with her husband and two children, Arthur, 11, and Alexandra, 7, to Chinquapin, near Waynesboro.
Eisenhower believes the choir has great potential and hopes to use her doctorate degree in choral conducting from the University of Texas at Austin to bring out the best in her new "students."
"The choir really takes the music seriously, and it is not hard for me to get them focused and involved," she said. -
