After five years at the helm of the Westbrook High School baseball program, John Eisenhart has resigned as head coach in order to spend more time with his family.
"This past spring, my 9-year-old started playing softball and my 7-year-old started playing T-ball, and I missed a bunch of their games," Eisenhart said."I didn´t want to miss any more of that, and I just had that gut feeling.
"At the end of the day, I don´t want to miss my kids´ stuff."
Westbrook Athletic Director Todd Sampson said Eisenhart submitted his resignation after the end of the American Legion baseball season; Eisenhart coached Manchester Post.

"It´s a credit to John that I call him the new era of coaching," Sampson said.

Eisenhart, a 1988 Deering graduate who pitched at Clarkson University in New York, took over a team that hadn´t had a winning season in 10 years and finished with a 44-39 overall record and two playoff appearances.The Blue Blazes won the Western Class A title in 2005 and were 8-8 last season.
Eisenhart said that when he took over the program, he had to call freshmen in hopes of convincing them to play baseball in the spring.
