Captain Eisen was a long serving member of the Terran Confederation, having been in service for over 30 years. He served his first tour of duty as an Ensign on board the then newly commissioned TCS Victory, the ship he would later go on to command.

Years passed with a distinguished but rather unremarkable record, and Eisen achieved the rank of Captain, and gained command of the TCS Victory. It's not known if Eisen served all his time on the Victory or returned there, but he felt an affection for the old carrier. An easy going person who liked to remain on friendly terms with his crew, Eisen was still a strict disciplinarian when it was needed. His ship later became the focus for many of the more vital operations in the latter days of the Confed-Kilrathi war and the Victory seemed to attract more than its fair share of attention. Eisen was briefly replaced as the Victory's commanding officer when Admiral Geoffrey Tolwyn arrived with the Behemoth superweapon and took command of the taskforce.
    ...
After the war, Eisen was demobbed with many other veterans, but when troubles with the Border Worlders seemed to erupt again, Eisen was given command of the TCS Lexington, a Concordia class Fleet Carrier, and one of the vessels which had survived the Kilrathi offensive on Earth, albeit in rather bad shape.

While on patrol, Eisen was again relieved of command, this time by Fleet Captain Hugh Paulsen, apparently working under orders from Confed Fleet HQ.
    ...
Eisen later defected to the Borderworlds Union asking if some of his trusted pilots would join him.

Eisen through much digging around had discovered the framework of a plot within Confed to start a war, a plan which involved many higher ups and he had had to defect to get information to the Borderworlds, but also to evade the inevitable arrest warrants that would have been coming his way. Later on, Eisen attempted to take all his information to Confed fleet HQ and was able to appropriate use of the TCS St Helens, a partially completed Vesuvius class supercarier to discourage the pursuit of the BWS Intrepid by the TCS Vesuvius under the command of Admiral Geoffrey Tolwyn.
