Lake Forest, Ill.-based Hospira Inc. acquired Mayne in February, and Hospira spokeswoman Stacey Eisen also declined to talk about the case.

She did say in an e-mail that "we will vigorously assert our rights to continue to help reduce the overall costs of health care through the introduction of high quality, less costly generic products."

"We are confident that all actions with respect to the spin-off were legal and appropriate and intend to vigorously defend Hospira against these claims," said Hospira spokeswoman Stacy Eisen, noting that the company has not yet seen the suit.

The cause of the explosion, damage estimates, production losses, and when work will resume still are unknown, said Hospira spokeswoman Stacey Eisen.

"Until we can access the extent of the damage, it's difficult to determine what our next steps will be," Eisen said.

She declined to discuss the work done in the area.
