    Justice Einfeld, who retired from the Family Court in 2001, is an internationally-respected and outspoken advocate for human rights and justice, UNICEF ambassador for children and an active campaigner for the rights of detained refugees in Australia.As well as serving on the Federal Court, he is a former president of the Human Rights and Equal Opportunity Commission, and was an Australian representative at the UN Commission on Human Rights in Geneva.

    Justice Einfeld has led a distinguished career in the legal field, both locally and internationally.In 1998, Justice Einfeld was made an Officer in the Order of Australia (AO) for services to international affairs and human rights.He was the UN Peace Laureate in 2002.As a QC, Judge of the Supreme Court and Judge of the Federal Court of Australia, he has mediated and decided cases in almost every area of law, including significant social justice cases on immigration, refugees and native title.As President of Australian Legal Resources International (ALRI), Justice Einfeld has also been actively engaged in the establishment of democratic parliamentary, legal and judicial systems in various parts of the developing world.Justice Einfeld was the Foundation President of the Australian Human Rights and Equal Opportunity Commission and is recognised as one of Australia's foremost activists for human rights at home and abroad.Justice Einfeld has also undertaken many critical international missions on human rights and refugees, particularly in his role as AUSTCARE'S Ambassador for Refugees.As UNICEF Ambassador for Children and Chair of its Taskforce on Children, Justice Einfeld has been a vigorous campaigner for the need to address the many issues which adversely impact on children in Australian and abroad.
