A. CRAIG EILAND was born in 1962 into a family of small businessmen, farmers and ranchers in Stanton, Texas. He was a star athlete at Stanton High School, achieving all-district honors on football, basketball and track.
He lettered in football at Baylor University, graduating in 1984 with a BBA in Business Administration. In 1987, he received his J.D. from Baylor School of Law.
After working on a ranch in the Australian Outback, Eiland moved to Galveston in February 1988 and joined the law firm of Mills, Shirley & Bassett, the state's oldest law firm. He left the firm after two years to work for Houston attorney Ernest H. Cannon. In 1992, Eiland opened his own law practice, with offices in Houston and Galveston.
A Democrat, Eiland was elected to serve in the 74th legislature, his first public office. He served on the Business and Industry and the State, Federal, & International Relations Committees in 1995. He now serves on the Appropriations and Insurance Committees for the 75th Session.
Eiland is married and lives on the West end of Galveston Island and is a member of First Baptist Church in Galveston.
