While labor unions often fear consolidation will mean job losses, Franceline Ehret, president of Turnpike Employees Union Local 194, which represents more than 1,500 toll takers, clerks and technical employees, said her group is open to a merger."If the governor's study recommends it, we will support it.We are firmly committed not to being obstructionist," she said.

Franceline Ehret , president of Local 194 of the International Federation of Professional and Technical Engineers , the union representing the turnpike's toll collectors , said the union is encouraging workers to wear gloves , and that motorists should be patient while collectors get used to them.

I believe we have to take safety into consideration in light of the events that have occurred , Ehret said.I don't know if I'd make it mandatory , she said , adding that wearing gloves slows down the collection process because workers can't easily feel the money.There will be an adjustment for the workers and the customers she said.
